Signalong Phase 1 Foundation Course

The HamletSignalong is a key word sign-supported communication system based on British sign language which is used to help adults and children with impaired communication to understand and express their needs, choices and desires.

The Signalong Phase 1 Foundation course is a 15-hour accredited course and suitable for those supporting Signalong users. Learners will learn how to apply signing in their own environment with an emphasis on the practical application of signing. This covers all vocabulary in the Signalong Phase 1 manual (at least 360 signs).

Course Aims

  • To discuss the early development of language, social interaction and communication
  • To consider how sign supported communication supports children and adults with speech, language and communication needs
  • To practice using signing skills and signs to interact and communicate with others
  • To learn at least 360 signs

Learning Outcomes

Learners will understand some of the early development of speech, language, social interaction and communication.  Understand how sign supported communication (Signalong) supports children and adults with speech, language and communication needs.  Use signing skills and signs to interact and communicate with others.

Target Audience

Anyone working / supporting someone with a communication Impairment.

  • This 15-hour accredited course is run over five consecutive Mondays
  • Dates: Mondays - 10th, 17th and 24th September and Mondays 1st and 8th October 2018
  • Times: 6pm to 9pm
  • The cost is £85 per learner, plus £19 for a Signalong Phase 1 manual.
