Meet our trustees

Jonathan Williams

I am a Registered Nurse and have worked at director level in the NHS for the past 12 years. I currently work as CEO for East Coast Community Healthcare (ECCH) a social enterprise providing a wide range of community services including; health visiting, school nursing, speech and language therapy and public health improvement programmes for both children and adults. Prior to my current role I was Associate Director of Public Health for Norfolk and I am passionate about health and wellbeing promotion in the young.

As an NHS director I have rarely been far away from the children's agenda, I have been a member of both Suffolk and Norfolk Safeguarding Children Boards and have been involved in a number of serious case reviews. At present I am fully engaged with the ECCH children's services development programme and am very proud of the strong reputation that services such as the Family Nurse Partnership have gained.

I am a dad (children are all grown up now, well so they tell me) and since moving to Norfolk 15 years ago with my family I have been involved with local sports clubs as a coach and facilitator for young people. I am particularly proud of my work as youth development officer for Brooke Cricket Club where we were very successful in creating an open access approach to engaging young people of all ages and ability at the club. I was really pleased when the opportunity came to join Momentum, I hope that bringing my experience and knowledge to the Board of Trustees will help in taking the charity forward.

Simon Bragg | Director of Finance and Resources with East Coast Community Healthcare (ECCH)

Simon Bragg

My current full time role is Director of Finance and Resources with East Coast Community Healthcare (ECCH) I work closely with Jonathan Williams who is also a trustee of Momentum. ECCH is a “not for profit” organisation, although the operational challenges are every bit as fierce as a fully commercial enterprise.

Prior to joining ECCH I have operated at Finance Director Level for around the last 20 years for a variety of different sized commercial organisations (owner managed to pan-European) and also worked for three years within Social Care at Essex County Council. Although I don’t often say it out loud, I am also a qualified chartered accountant.

I would like to hope that my direct finance experience and general commercial exposure would lend favourably to the oversight of the operations of Momentum in an area where I am aware there is currently requirement.

Whilst I have personal affinity with the valuable work being undertaken by Momentum, the community nature of the charity dovetails well with the work being undertaken by ECCH’s Children’s Services and, having met with Cindee, it is apparent that we share a common ethos. I hope to both learn from Momentum (ECCH is establishing its own charitable arm) as well as to make a full contribution to its future success. 

Jon Dennis

I believe that I have the skills to aid Momentum.  I work at all levels of a voluntary group, from delivery as a coach to an executive committee member.

I am a member of the National Coaching Committee reporting directly to the Board of England Boxing; a national governing body in sport.  I started with Attleborough Boxing Club with nothing and developed it to a centre of excellence for England Boxing. 

I will speak directly as I see it, without a hidden agenda – I believe this is the way forward with many organisations and sadly lacking in some.

Ben Burt

I have over 12 years working with young people within a variety of areas; this has included Norfolk, Cornwall and London. Settings have included small urban youth clubs, to outreach work, creative programmes and include my current post which is being the Activities and Facilities Manager at OPEN, a myplace funded venue, with a range of facilities for young people which currently works with over 3000 young people a year in its programme alone. I also have a vast amount of experience in other sectors which include, event planning and management, working with local businesses and developing key partnerships with corporate organisations to help sustain services, build revenue and make services more well-known and embraced by a wider audience. I am extremely passionate about all services for young people, and believe Momentum (Norfolk) plays a key role in enabling services to exist with support and information that in turn benefits a huge amount of children and young people in a number of different ways.

Abigail McGarry

I have been working within the children's services workforce for the last 16 years in a number of different roles. Originally, I worked as Business Manager for an Ofsted inspection contractor before moving into local government. I have extensive expertise in performance management and quality assurance and am passionate about ensuring that children and young people have good high quality services that support them throughout their childhoods and teenage years. I worked for several years in a high performing Youth Support Service where I ensured that all the youth centres achieved gold standard status from London Youth. I am currently the Business Manager for the Norfolk Safeguarding Children Board. I am deeply committed to ensuring that children and young people grow up feeling safe and loved and that they have the opportunities, aspiration and inspiration to realise their potential. One of my greatest achievements in my current role was being honoured with an Inspirational Adult Award by the children and young people in Norfolk's In Care Council. Inside my head, I never really got past the age of 16, so it was lovely to have an award with the word 'Adult' in the title, but more importantly, it was really humbling and it gave me an opportunity to. thank the young people I come into contact with and actually recognise how inspirational they are.

Harry Town

I have been involved in Norfolk’s provision of youth work for 16 years, initially as Programme Manager for Norfolk County Council’s Positive Activity for Young People project.  Prior to this I was Marketing Manager for PGL Adventure Holidays, Kingswood Learning & Leisure, and Longleat House and Safari Park. 

Since 2011 I have been a Director of MTM Youth Services CIC, a Community Interest Company whose mission is to identify, develop, deliver and support high quality, value for money Youth Work.   We also support, develop and supply Youth Workers, including training and supervision, and enable Youth Workers to work on a self-employed basis.

I am also a youth work practitioner and deliver various projects as part of MTM’s portfolio, and also build and maintain partnerships with statutory and voluntary agencies to deliver youth work.

I am keen to be part of Momentum, in order that young people and agencies that work with them, continue to be supported and the levels of delivery and training continue to be of a high standard.

I am also excited to be involved in the roll-out of the Ambition Quality validated award, as part of my role with NCC Youth Service was quality control of youth work delivery.

I have an interest in company financial affairs, and have a background in sales and marketing in the travel and tourism sector, and hope that these skills will be of benefit to Momentum in some way.

I am also a Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages, and we can only wait and see how the skills I have for that job transfer to being a Trustee!

Rachel Cowdry

I have worked in the field of social care since 1991. I have worked in the voluntary, private and statutory sector and have a high level of working knowledge of a wide range of children and family services.

Since 2008 I have worked at Break Charity in a variety of roles starting in a Learning and Development role, creating the foundations for our regionally renowned Learning and Development programme. During the last 8 years I have managed many aspects of the business including Workforce Development, Organisational Development, HR, IT and H&S and Maintenance. Although starting my career as a humble social worker, I have learnt through experience many aspects of the charity business and have helped to standardise and improve several of our business processes.

Since 2015 I have been the Business Development Director guiding the future direction of Break and overseeing the Fundraising and Retail teams alongside Workforce Development, Communication and Marketing and Business Development. I work in a way that focuses on the strategic, facilitates problem solving and encourages individuals, teams and sectors of an organisation to be the best they can. 

I am passionate about providing the best service possible to the children and families and want to be part of supporting the sector to meet the needs of communities during these testing economic and political times. I think I can work well with others on the Board to support and challenge Momentum to be an effective sustainable infrastructure organisation that can optimise opportunities as they arise

Rachel Cowdry | Head of Organisational Development - Break
