Unfortunately, young people have the worst uptake for smoking cessation but with the support of experienced professionals and volunteers who are already working closely with them, we can give them the best chance of quitting.
It is a frightening statistic that around 90,000 11-15 year olds in the UK are regularly smoking. By becoming qualified stop smoking practitioners, we can work to reduce the amount of young people in Norwich who are smoking. As a result of this training, delegates will be able to prescribe Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) such as patches and gum.
The young people who sign up for the course will be offered a range of incentives such as gym memberships, GoPros and Fitbits if they successfully quit smoking at the end of the programme.
Delegates will learn how to effectively encourage, motivate and support young people who want to quit smoking for good, through a series of one to one sessions over a 4-8 week period.
To gain an understanding in how to effectively promote the use of proven stop smoking aids such as NRT and Champix.
How to monitor the presence of carbon monoxide using the “Smokerlyzer” carbon monoxide monitor.
To understand what barriers smokers may face that prevent them from successfully stopping smoking and how to overcome these.
How to offer non-judgemental support and guidance for young people who want to stop smoking through a series of one-to-one sessions
How to effectively promote the use of and prescribe relevant stop smoking aids such as NRT
How to further motivate young people who are struggling to quit
