Train the Trainer: Moving & Handling 3-day Programme

Training Assessment

A high quality and robust course mapped to the National Back Exchange guidelines, offering care providers cost-effective LOCAL training and the opportunity to develop senior care staff to support your staff teams working across the health and social care sector.

Day 2 is also available for existing trainers to access, in order to refresh their trainer certificates (recommended annually by the National Back Exchange).

The excellent venue allows delegates a superb opportunity to access to a wide and varied range of moving and assisting equipment, aids and Assistive Technology.

Course Objectives

Day 1: 9.00am - 5.00pm 
Theoretical learning
  • Legislation, policies and procedures governing moving and handling
  • Back care, postural awareness (including leverage effect and joint care awareness)
  • Risk Assessment (process and documentation) 
  • Safe principles of moving and handling (people and inanimate loads)

Day 2: 9.00am - 5.00pm Practical:  Moving and Assisting People Safely

  • Review of current legislation and the principles of safe manual handling and the safe movement of people
  • Awareness of current moving and handling equipment available for all client groups and care environments
  • Practical demonstrations of ‘moving and assisting people safely’ techniques
  • Full delegate participation and use of equipment and Assistive Technology
To include:
  • Assisted sit-stand-sit Appropriate use of handling belts, wheelchairs and commodes
  • Mechanical standaids
  • Hoists: standing, fixed overhead, gantry
  • Profiling bed and Vendlet  bed system
  • Problem solving
  • Review: Q & As

We have available a wide range and variety of moving and handling equipment for delegates to access and use during the training. This offers an excellent opportunity to gain awareness of the equipment and Assistive Technology available to support clients and to enable them to maintain independence for as long as possible.

Day 3: 9.00am - 5.00pm 
Teaching and Assessing
Including: Understanding inclusive learning styles, group dynamics, lesson planning, assessing competence, documentation and recording.
