Please be aware that Momentum are no longer providing DBS checking and processing services.
Voluntary groups looking for an alternative DBS provider may wish instead to use the services of CBR Business Solutions. CBR Business Solutions is the commercial, trading arm of Voluntary Norfolk and is an experienced provider of HR, Payroll and DBS for SMEs, not-for-profits and charities.
If you are a Momentum member and wish to discuss your DBS needs, please contact Aimee Gedge, our Supporting Excellence Officer.
Please contact our CBR Business Solutions Team if you have any questions about existing or future DBS applications.
For customers who have been reliant on paper-based applications our colleagues in our CBR Business Solutions DBS team will support you, where possible, to move to our online platform for DBS checks. Please note, we have temporarily waived the set-up fee required for online applications for Momentum members in order to help groups access the online service.
The DBS service has updated its guidance regarding checking of evidence online for basic, standard and enhanced checks. See https://www.gov.uk/government/news/covid-19-changes-to-standard-and-enhanced-id-checking-guidelines.
Please note, this change is only relevant for urgent cases where it is not possible to follow the normal identity checking guidelines. The applicant must present the original versions of these documents when they first attend their employment or volunteering role.
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) helps employers make safer recruitment decisions and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups, including children. It replaces the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).
A DBS check is a report from the police which details any and all entries the police have on their system for you. This is just a formality for most people and is purely a precautionary measure to ensure children and young people are safe on their activities. The search is for relevant records, so, for instance, there is no need to worry if you want to work with children but have a speeding ticket!
For further information please go to the DBS page of the CBR Business Solutions website.
The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) update service lets applicants keep their DBS certificates up to date online and allows employers to check a certificate online. Registration lasts for 1 year and is free for volunteer positions and £13 per year for paid positions (payable by debit or credit card only).
