DBS Checks

DBS Checks

Important news – July 2018

As you may be aware Momentum has now merged with Voluntary Norfolk and as a result of this we will not be able to retain our registered body status with the Disclosure and Barring Service.  We will however continue to provide you with a service for paper-based DBS applications but under the registration of Voluntary Norfolk.  Our online service with GB Group will cease and we are asking our existing online users to transfer to CBR Business Solutions (part of Voluntary Norfolk) who also have an online platform with GB Group.

What does this mean for you?

Online users have been sent details of how to transfer to CBR Solutions.  All new users that wish to use online DBS checks should visit CBR Solutions Disclosure and Barring Service page

For paper-based applications

From 1 August please ensure that you do not use the purple blank DBS applications that have Momentum’s address on the front cover (these should be destroyed). You will be required to use purple DBS application forms that have Voluntary Norfolk on the front cover.  Please continue to use Momentum’s Documentary Evidence sheet and the DBS Privacy Policy Declaration.

You should send completed applications to our DBS Administrator at the following address:

Momentum (part of Voluntary Norfolk)
2-16 Colegate
Norwich
NR3 1BQ

Your agreement for DBS services will continue to be with Momentum Norfolk and you should continue to contact Momentum regarding queries and for evidence checking. However, your invoice for applications will come from Voluntary Norfolk.

Our charges for paper-based applications will continue at their current level but will be reviewed for the next financial year.

Please do not contact CBR Business Solutions regarding paper-based child workforce applications.

What are DBSs?

The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) helps employers make safer recruitment decisions and prevent unsuitable people from working with vulnerable groups, including children. It replaces the Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) and Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA).

A DBS check is a report from the police which details any and all entries the police have on their system for you. This is just a formality for most people and is purely a precautionary measure to ensure children and young people are safe on their activities. The search is for relevant records, so, for instance, there is no need to worry if you want to work with children but have a speeding ticket!

Momentum is an umbrella organisation with the Disclosure Barring Service allowing small organisations to undertake DBS applications for the staff and volunteers through us. Members have a reduction in the costs of DBS applications. No minimum number of applications required.

NB: We carry out DBS checks for Child Workforce. For Adult Workforce, please contact CBR Business Solutions.
