The Level 2 qualification prepares the learner to assist in work with young people in a variety of youth work settings. The role of youth work is to help young people learn about themselves, others and society, through various informal educational activities. Youth workers typically work with young people aged between 11 and 25. This course will enable you to gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to work holistically with young people to facilitate their personal and social development. This NOCN Level 2 Youth Work Award is an accredited course. Learners may already be working in a youth work setting but this is not an essential requirement.
The course starts on 13th January 2018 and finishes on 8th May 2018, consisting of twelve sessions held on Tuesday evenings between 6 – 9pm and six sessions held on Saturday’s between 10am – 4pm.
No prior qualifications are needed to undertake this course. However, you should be able to plan, draft and organise your own work and be committed to attending the training sessions as well as undertaking some work in your own time. This course is aimed at those aged 16+ and you will be expected to take part in group discussions, make significant contributions and help to move discussions forward. This course is suitable for learners who need some support with their learning and not ready to undertake study for the Level 3 qualification.
*Members can apply for our Small Grant to cover part of the cost of the course.
The Level 2 course will include topics such as Young People´s Development, Theory of Youth Work and Engaging and Communicating with Young People using an interactive, group method. The course is delivered though classroom sessions and individual support from the Course Tutor is also provided.
Your work will be assessed through a portfolio of evidence and various pieces of written course work. The learner must achieve a minimum of 11 credits to successfully complete this course.
Learners can then progress onto the NOCN Level 3 in Youth Work Practice qualification to support their development to higher level roles within youth work settings. Momentum are offering a Level 3 course which will start in May 2018. You may wish to consider progressing on to the Level 3 course after completing the Level 2 course (please register your interest as early as possible to ensure you secure a place on the course).
As part of our Youth Worker development programme, we have a progression of courses which will help you to gain the skills and knowledge that you need when working with young people. The first stage of this programme is attendance at our short courses 'Introduction to Working with Young People' and 'Introduction to Youth Participation' and the final step is the Level 3 Certificate in Youth Work Practice. As you progress through the courses, you will build on and develop the knowledge that you have gained. If you are thinking that you wish to do the Level 2 Award in Youth Work Practice – then we would recommend that you do 'Introduction to Working with Young People' first.
Participants must be in a work setting where they are able to have a minimum of three hours face to face delivery with young people – this can be voluntary or paid.
