This training will focus on developing participants’ understanding of participation as part of good youth work practice and in gaining knowledge and skills to support and promote young people’s participation in a youth work setting. The course content includes an introduction to models of participation and consideration of how young people’s participation is underpinned by youth work principles, national standards and the United Nation’s Convention on the Rights of the Child. It will also offer participants the opportunity to explore the impact and barriers to implementing young people’s participation into practice.
The course is offered with or with-out unit accreditation at Level 3 by NOCN, a nationally recognised awarding organisation for youth work, and can be used toward completion of the Level 3 Certificate / Diploma in Youth Work Practice.
Ideally learners will have accessed prior learning opportunities such as ‘Introduction to Youth Work’ or the Level 2 in Youth Work Principles/Practice. Participants wishing to undertake the accreditation must have the opportunity to lead ‘face to face’ group work sessions with young people—this can be voluntary or paid, in person or via technology. The course will be delivered via online group sessions.
